Many of us have experienced brain fog one time or another although some of us might not have recognized that feeling of tiredness after waking up as brain fog.

According to Deane Alban, the signs of brain fog include disorientation, mental dullness, inability to focus and to remember things. However, brain fog can be treated and prevented.

If you are constantly getting a good sleep which ranges from seven to nine hours, you will wake up feeling so energized. You might obviously feel a bit sleepy which is normal. For a morning person, all you need to wake you up fully is a hot bath and a cup of coffee, and you’ll be good to go. However, if you are one of those people that hate waking up early, then you will need more coffee than normal. Either way, the fact is that you will be able to get alert easily.

Do you always feel very groggy and uncomfortable in the morning hours? If you do, then you probably suffer from brain fog. Even though brain fog isn’t a medical diagnosis, it is a common and true situation, one which is neither healthy nor okay.

In this article, we would be talking about five major causes of brain fog, several ways to avoid it and strategies to make you feel better.

The five reasons responsible for you feeling very tired when you wake up.

1. The first reason is, you guessed right, inadequate sleep. This is obviously one of the biggest reasons people wake up feeling tired. Of course, they will feel tired, after all, they did not have enough rest.

Did you know that in America, about forty million people are suffering from more than 70 different sleeping disorders and that above 60 percent of the adults do not sleep well a few times in a week due to sleeping problems?

The brain needs an average rest period of about 7 to 9 hours which we are supposed to sleep for. Without this good sleep, you will wake up feeling so disoriented that going through the day will be a difficult task for you.

How to fix it

It’s simple, get enough sleep preferably between and 7 and 9 hours every night To make this easier for yourself, get yourself into a routine that you will follow to a T. Your routine should include a fixed time for bath and for going to bed every day.

2. The second cause of brain fog is bad nutrition or diet. Our food is a major part of our lives. Eating the right things and gaining the right nutrients would go a long way in keeping us healthy. In this case, brain fog is caused by the deficiencies of certain nutrients such as vitamin D, vitamin B12, amino acids, and magnesium.

How to fix it

You need to make sure that your meals are balanced to ensure the consumption of all the minerals and vitamins that your body needs. Another one and this is a quick fix, is taking drugs to replenish the particular vitamin that is causing your brain fog.

The last method is taking general multivitamins that contain all the basic vitamins you need. The capsules would help in providing you with those essential nutrients. However, getting the nutrients straight from the food source is way better than the pills.

3. Extreme stress.

It might seem to you that being stressed should be a huge catalyst for a good dead to the world sleep. However, it might not be the case when a person is constantly stressed out.

The highest cause of this extreme stress in America is from work. People constantly get stressed out from the demands of the workplace. Funnily enough, in America, there is a lot of technological advancement that should make things easier for people in their workplaces. Unfortunately, only a very small number of people work for companies where they aren’t stressed and are allowed. To work away from the office and people who work from home are also much happier than those who work in offices.

One might say that working from home will reduce the person’s productivity. Wrong, those who work from home have shown a higher rate of productivity according to research.

It is safe to say that work is one of the biggest causes of stress in the country. There seems to be no way out what with the huge student loans, long hours and huge amounts of responsibilities.

How to fix it

Well, this might not work for everyone as some jobs cannot be done from home. But If your own can be done from home, then you need to find out if it is something the company you work for can do. The other point which is more feasible and covers a wide range of people is list making. I know that making up a grocery list is hard for one, however, this particular list would help you see where you spent your time and when to help you manage your time.

4. Poor introvert lifestyle.

Due to the stress that we go through on a daily basis, we prefer to stay in rather than go out. Considering how tired we usually are these days by the time we are back from work, we just decide to pack our worn out bodies on the couch.

For some, the cycle rotates from work to home while for others like yours truly, it rotates from work to school to home. One underlying common factor in these two scenarios is the unhealthy cycle of weight gain and loss.

It is imperative that we engage ourselves in exercise. The benefits of exercise cannot be overemphasized. Some of them include:

1. Exercise does not just affect our physical bodies, it also affects our brains and has been said to increase a persons brainpower.

2. Brisk walking, which is a cross between running and walking really fast is a very good exercise that aims to clear your mind of distraction.

3. An average exercise gives out endorphins and counteracts the effect of cortisol in our bodies. The function of the endorphin released is to provide us with that awesome after eating exercise feeling while the second function serves to drain our stress.

How to fix it.

Simple! Exercise is the key. Make out time for exercise in your daily planner every day. It doesn’t have to be anything very rigorous like 50 push-ups. Just a fast-paced 15-minute walk will do wonderfully. Although as time goes on you can increase your work out.

5. Lack of adequate water

Many people grossly underestimate the importance of having enough water in our body systems. Water is important for many things including easy digestion of food. This might shock you a bit, but as little a drop in the percentage water content of our bodies such as 2% adversely affects our memory and attention and what’s more? More than half of the American people are dehydrated at any given time.

Water has a role to play when it comes to the brain, and it’s activities. Water provides necessary electrical energy that the brain needs to carry out all if it’s functions. Water is also needed in the brain for the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters.

How to fix it

The is simple. Make sure that you have enough water around you. It might help if you carried a water bottle to help replenish your flagging water content.

Try to be conscious of your water level. It would be advised that you occasionally take water during the day whether you are thirsty or not. It would go a long way to improve your attention, memory, and your brain functions.
